They say the nurse suffered a non-life-threatening wound while trying to subdue the patient Tuesday afternoon outside the hospital's Heart and Vascular Center. Happy 106th birthday, Dr. Seuss!

Today, March 2nd, is the 106th birthday of much beloved children’s author Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known to billions of American children as Dr. Seuss. Geisel began using his more famous moniker- Seuss- when at Dartmouth College in the 1920s. Having been caught drinking gin with several other students, Geisel was ordered to quit all extracurricular activities and in order to circumvent the ban, he began publishing cartoons under the name “Seuss.” (Geisel also worked under the nom de plume “Theo LeSieg.”) Geisel died in 1991, and to say his books are a favorite of American children would be a massive understatement. Not only are his books (One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish; The Cat in The Hat and Green Eggs and Ham, for starters) prolific, but the distinctive rhyming patterns and colorful style of illustration unique to Geisel’s work is firmly ingrained in pop culture. Surprisingly, Google doesn’t seem to be honoring Geisel- seems like he’s right up their street. Still, the internet hasn’t forgotten the birthday of Dr. Seuss, and if you want to print out coloring pages for your kids or yourself, there are some printables on Seussville.com. (There are more printables here if you’re all into Dr. Seuss coloring pages today.) And for the grown-up Seuss fans, check out this Dr. Seuss-inspired rap. I never realized how suited to hip-hop Seuss words were, but homeboy had flow.

taylor mays

Taylor Mays was timed as fast as 4.19 seconds in the 40-yard dash by former USC coach Pete Carroll when the NFL safety prospect and the new Seattle Seahawks coach were on campus, according to a league source. Mays’ official time today was 4.43 seconds after unofficial times of 4.24 and 4.34 seconds. There’s no question that Mays is fast. What’s more important is how the athletic 6-foot-3, 230-pounder plays. Per a source, Mays received strong reviews from NFL teams this week at the NFL scouting combine. Among the NFL brass that were high on Mays: San Francisco 49ers coach Mike Singletary, the former Chicago Bears middle linebacker. One source predicted that Mays will be drafted in the top 10 selections of the first round in April.

heirloom tomatoes organic/ world news

Time to showcase a few varieties of heirloom tomatoes! It will be a neat way to learn about some of the different kinds we grow, what they look like, how they taste, where some of them came from before they get to market! A teaser for those that cannot wait for local vine ripened organic old fashioned real tasting tomatoes!! The early ones have now been transplanted into larger pots for individual thriving growth! The neat thing about these tomatoes is that even the foliage of the plants differs from variety to variety! Some with potato leaves, some stocky, some bright green, some almost a greyish colour (Pink Zapotec). Some new ones we are excited about are "Azoychka". This heirloom is orangy yellow, delicious and rare! 'Tobolsk' is 100 years old "originally from the Urals near the city of Tobolsk, Russia - Sweet, Rare & Precious" says Gary Ibsen, the man I look to for neat and new varieties (www.tomatofest.com). I cannot wait for this one! I do lean more towards the Russian, Ukrainian & Polish varieties, as that is part of my own family heritage and one day when I begin my seed saving adventures I plan to dig deep into heirlooms from these countries (lots are hardy and more 'rough' and 'tough' and do well in cooler climates!) "Moskovich" is another one, this one being a rich deep red with excellent taste! I am also hitting Australia this year with "Aussie". Gary Ibsen describes it by saying: "Dependable, red glossy tomato with rich delicious, bold, rich complex tomatoey flavours!" Wow, can't wait! For fun this year we've got "Banana Legs" which is bright yellow, meaty and shaped like a banana! Also "Mortgage Lifter Bi Color". This one I bet will be similar to Striped German that is always very popular! Any tomato that can help with the mortgage is always welcome! It is golden yellow with red marbling and the fruits weigh in at 1-2lbs...stay tuned for many other stories, as we are once again growing dozens of different kinds!

Marie Osmond Son Stephen

Michael Blosil left behind a suicide note. Blosil had reportedly suffered depression. Michael was the second child adopted by Marie. In one of these more recent pictures, Michael is the middle age child standing in the front with the stripped vest sweater. The couple had ended their marriage of nearly 20 years. Michael Blosil was one of eight children, and one of five adopted. Michael Blosil’s father Brian and Marie issued the following statement roughly two years ago about their divorce “Our marriage has always been a faithful one, and neither of us is assigning fault for the divorce.” Olive Marie Osmond (born October 13, 1959) is an American actress, singer, doll designer, and a member of the show business family, The Osmonds. Although she was never part of her family’s singing group, she gained success as a solo country music artist in the 1970s and 1980s. Her best known song is a cover of the country pop ballad “Paper Roses.” In 1976, she and her singer brother Donny Osmond began hosting the TV variety show Donny & Marie. There have been conflicting reports about whether Blosil may have struggled with depression. Vernon said he did not have any information. “He’s dealing with a lot of issues,” she told CNN’s Larry King at the time. “I don’t feel comfortable talking for him. I think he’ll have to deal with that.” Osmond did say one of the issues troubling him was the fact that he was adopted. “He is the most amazing kid …,” she added before beginning to cry. Osmond herself has struggled with depression over the years, as she disclosed in her 2001 book, “Behind the Smile: My Journey Out ofPostpartum Depression.” Blosil was one of Osmond’s five adopted children. She also has three other children from two marriages. Osmond divorced Brian Blosil in 2007 after two decades of marriage. She and her first husband, Stephen Craig, divorced in 1985. In a statement after his death, Osmond said she and her family were in shock. Her publicist declined to provide any additional comment from Osmond on Monday. Osmond earned fame at age 13 with the hit song “Paper Roses,” and starred with her brother, Donny, on television’s “Donny and Marie Show” during the 1970s. The siblings perform a musical variety show regularly at the Flamingo Las Vegas Hotel and Casino. The hotel said the shows were canceled over the weekend and performances would resume on March 9.

NFL Combine Results 2010

NFL Combine Results 2010 : Coming into Tuesday, the final day of field drills at the NFL Scouting Combine at Indianapolis, most of the defensive backs have participated in the bench press, and there are a few very disappointing performances.

Even though the bench press really just shows upper body strength and a player’s commitment to working out consistently more than anything else, several cornerback and safeties could barely put up the 225 pounds.
